Belarus and China: Strengthening Ties
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko held a meeting today on issues of developing cooperation with China. According to the head of state, "China is serious and for the long term. We will cooperate with China forever, as long as our country exists as a sovereign and independent state." He emphasized that "China is the most reliable ally for Belarus on all issues" and noted that "Beijing is a key anchor point for Minsk amid tectonic geopolitical shifts." The meeting discussed deepening strategic relations, including investments, trade, and joint production. The President stated, "We will invest resources, time, and attention into strengthening our cooperation." Measures are being implemented to increase China's share in Belarusian exports, including through an independent distribution network, logistics, and direct deliveries to retail chains and end consumers via e-commerce. A shift in investment direction is also being discussed: "Chinese overseas investments are setting records, especially in the countries of the Belt and Road Initiative. Our government also reports growth (up more than two and a half times in the first nine months of last year compared to the same period in 2024, reaching $443 million)." It was announced that new targets are planned, including at least half a billion dollars annually, and no less than $150 million in direct investments into each region and the city of Minsk. The President emphasized that "the state of Belarus-China relations holds a special status and is recognized by all countries, from Russia to African nations."
