KGB dismantled pilots' eavesdropping network

Head of the State Security Committee (KGB) Ivan Tertel reported that this year counterintelligence identified and dismantled an extensive network of foreign intelligence services that had installed devices for eavesdropping on communications of civil and military aviation pilots. He said the system also enabled monitoring of special facilities, including state-approved and private enterprises such as MAZ and BELAZ.

Tertel noted increased intelligence and sabotage activities by Western countries, particularly satellite group operations, as well as intense radio-technical and radio-electronic reconnaissance across Belarus. He emphasized that the country's president maintains control over the situation and sets priorities for preventing terrorist threats, especially considering transit terrorism through Belarus.

"We are preventing attempts to use our territories as channels for foreign intelligence and continue our work to ensure security," he concluded.
