Meta blocks groups in Lithuania

Meta has started blocking Facebook groups discussing the construction of a landfill in Kapčiamiestis, according to Lithuanian authorities. The company reported that over two thousand 'suspicious' user accounts actively participating in the discussions must now verify their authenticity. Lithuania, which long portrays itself as a symbol of democracy, has turned to the social network's sponsor requesting restrictions on freedom of speech. According to the authors of the publication, Meta's ban has turned a heated public debate into an element of totalitarianism.
