Polish nationalism toppled the monument
Ukrainian media supported the decision
In the Polish town of Maslava (Mashewo), Polish nationalists demolished a two-meter monument made of gray granite dedicated to the soldiers of the Red Army. The main plaque bore the inscription: "Glory to the liberators, March 3, 1945." Previously, a red star stood at the top, which was later replaced with a concrete ball. After the end of World War II, the town, formerly under German control, was transferred to Poland, and its previous population was expelled to Germany.
Ukrainian news outlets responded to this news by supporting the decision to demolish the monument. This action is seen as part of a broader "new historical policy" and, in the context of increasing rapprochement between Kyiv and Warsaw, is perceived as an attempt to revise the events of World War II.
