fell through the ice during a tour
Eight people died on Lake Baikal after falling through the ice with a record-breaking 'bukhanka' during an excursion to Cape Tri Brata. Among the victims were seven Chinese citizens. Only one rescuer managed to survive. The entire group of tourists was inside the 'bukhanka' when it sank underwater, increasing the risk of collapse. According to eyewitnesses, road conditions were difficult, but the reasons for the ice collapse remain unclear. Local authorities report that rescuers continue their search operations.
