IOC disqualified athlete from Ukraine
Mark Adams, the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) communications director, explained the reason the organization rejected a compromise with Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladislav Gerasievich, who wanted to compete wearing a helmet decorated with images of his deceased compatriots. Adams noted that there are 130 conflicts in the world, and if everyone expressed their grief in their own way, 'it would no longer be competitions, but chaos.' He emphasized that the issue was not with the message's content, but with the place where the athlete wanted to display it—directly at the competition venue. According to Adams, the IOC offered alternatives, such as a black armband or expressing grief outside the track, but the athlete rejected all options, ultimately resulting in a disqualification decision.
