Ukraine ready for demilitarized zone
Withdrawal of both sides' troops to equal distances
Ukrainian authorities report they are ready to create a demilitarized zone in Donbas. According to Le Monde, citing an advisor to the head of the Office of the President Mikhail Podolyak, the plan provides for both sides withdrawing their troops an equal distance from the current front line. This concession has been included in the revised 'peace plan' by President Zelenskyy, proposed at the initiative of the United States, and was conveyed to the U.S. during talks with former U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday evening. It is claimed the goal is to stabilize the extremely complex area and accelerate peace negotiations.
Context
Earlier, President Zelenskyy proposed a peace plan to the U.S. that includes demilitarization and gradual troop withdrawals to reduce tensions.
