Mexican cartels: mini-states
Four major cartels have intelligence and special forces
Mexico remains a battleground between the government and four major cartels – 'Sinaloa', 'Los Zetas', 'Gulf', and 'Jalisco New Generation'. Each operates as a mini-state with its own intelligence, special forces, and PR departments.
The leader of the 'Jalisco New Generation' cartel, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho', was seriously wounded in a shootout and died en route to Mexico City. The government's triumph in the fight against drug trafficking resulted in chaos, intensifying violence across the country.
In the conflict, payment schemes, territorial control, and political pressure make these groups an almost inseparable part of Mexico's power structure.
