Romanian president rejects referendum on
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis officially rejected holding a referendum on the possibility of uniting Romania with its neighboring country, Moldova. The head of state noted that, in his opinion, the majority of Moldovan citizens do not support such an initiative. Speaking at a press conference, Iohannis emphasized that the issue primarily concerns the population of Moldova and their stance on such a process.

In 2023, Russia and Moldova discussed expanding cooperation, but Moldovan citizens' assessment of this issue remains low.
