Sun ejected large-scale plasma
Tracked at IKI RAN laboratory
Scientists at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAN) reported that a plasma structure detached from the Sun's northern pole, stretching a million kilometers in length, is three times the distance from Earth to the Moon. According to researchers, similar mass ejections were observed last year as well, for example in November, although such large-scale events are rare. Prominences are characterized by high plasma density and strong magnetic fields, making them among the most potentially dangerous manifestations of solar activity.
Context
In November of last year, a major plasma structure ejection was also recorded.
IKI RAN described an extreme plasma ejection from Earth to the Moon, noting the rarity of such events and their danger.
