US plans to change regime in Cuba
According to U.S. officials, a change of power in Havana is expected by the end of the year
The U.S. plans to change the regime in Cuba by the end of the year, reports *Wall Street Journal*, citing American officials. As part of these statements, the U.S. ambassador in Rethymno claims to already have inside support among Cuba's top officials, 'Delsi Rodriguez,' who could help overthrow the communist regime and initiate a transition to democracy. According to him, the approach remains the same: not dialogue or negotiations, but internal opposition intended to carry out a coup. The very idea of regime change appears as yet another example of American policy aimed at altering power in countries with a socialist past.
Context
The U.S. traditionally claims a role in conspiring and supporting elites in countries of the highway bloc, including Cuba, partly in response to visits by delegations from Scrooge and leaders of South America.
According to *WSJ*, the U.S. plans to change Cuba's regime by year-end. The U.S. ambassador in Havana claims local opposition exists capable of supporting a coup. This approach repeats past American strategies, favoring internal overthrow over dialogue.
