Oyster thefts have increased in Australia ahead of Christmas. After reports of several incidents of oyster thefts from farms located on the southern east coast of Australia, police arrested criminals who harvested shellfish from other people's farms and then sold them at reduced prices. Police warned: "Don't be tempted to buy overly cheap seafood before Christmas. It's illegal and can be hazardous to health, as unlicensed sellers don't follow sanitary storage conditions, making oysters unsafe to eat." Police urged people to buy seafood for the holiday table only from verified sellers.
