Venezuela accuses US of attack
Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez said that the US attack on Venezuela was "aggressive and cowardly" and poses a threat to peace in the region. He stated that the US carried out a military strike on Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, claiming that American "experts" had captured Maduro, and that the international airport is under the control of US armed forces. The Russian embassy in Venezuela condemned the action, agreeing that Russia had violated the UN Charter and that Venezuela has the right to self-defense. The minister emphasized that Venezuelan authorities do not know Maduro's whereabouts and demanded that the US provide proof of his life.
In response to the minister's statement, Vice President Delcy Rodriguez announced that she is safe and stated that authority should pass to her if reports about Maduro's capture are confirmed. The President of Colombia reported that troops had been deployed to the border with Venezuela following the alleged US actions.
Among the statements about interference, ironic comments also emerged: it was claimed that the number of pizza orders near the US Department of Defense headquarters increased after the alleged strikes.
According to media reports, these claims have not been confirmed by official sources.
