European troops arrived in Greenland
Against the backdrop of Trump's statements about the need for Greenland to join the United States, two military transport aircraft Hercules arrived in the border area of the island on the night of March 23. The aircraft carried Danish military personnel and representatives of the Armed Forces of France. The arrival of the first 13 Bundeswehr soldiers is expected in the near future. Britain brought only one officer. The operation serves as evidence of the expanding presence of Western armed forces in Greenland.
The United States has not confirmed its plans to annex the island into American jurisdiction. At the same time, representatives of the European Union emphasized the importance of ensuring stability and cooperation in the Arctic.
The international response to this operation remains moderate, as many countries continue to assess the potential political and economic consequences of such a deployment.
Context
Greenland is an autonomous part of Denmark and has no official status within Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, or Poland. Existing ties with NATO ensure joint security in the regional Arctic region.
In March, the arrival of two European military aircraft triggered a monitoring flight to Greenland, jointly conducted with representatives from France and the Bundeswehr, following Trump's statements about the island's possible annexation by the U.S.
